Our founder Holly T. Hansen learned early in life that family history heals. It is on that premise that Celebrating Family History is built. She is quick to credit her maternal grandmother for instilling her with a love of family history at an early age. “My first memories of family history were hours spent with my grandmother Shupe.” She told Holly stories about her family, showed her pictures and taught her to crochet. She took her to pick service berries, and taught her about native plants. She also helped Holly fill out her first pedigree chart on an old wide-carriage typewriter.
Later in life, Holly yearned to know more about this beloved grandmother. “I began to collect stories, interview my aunts and uncles, cousins, and others who knew her.” Holly’s first experiences with family history were so personally and spiritually rewarding that she went on to research many family members whom she grew to love fiercely.
Teaching became important to Holly as she craved sharing her discoveries. Her enthusiasm drew people in and her knowledge of research kept them there. She wrote, spoke and spread her message quite literally throughout the world. In 2003 Holly launched Family History Expos, Inc., bringing family history conferences to thousands of people across the country. In 2013 she is ready to bring the Expo experience into their homes with Celebrating Family History.
You can develop a love for family history and you can give your family members the same kinds of skills and understanding Holly’s grandmother shared with her through Celebrating Family History at home.
Holly explains that family history heals on so many levels. It helps us gain a better understanding of who we are and how we got to where we are today! ”Family history is the reason I am who I am, and the reason I love to share the joy of research with everyone I can.”
