Historic Nauvoo, Illinois will be the site of a Family History Expos Genealogy Retreat on October 17th through October 20th. You are all invited to participate with our research professionals in learning about family history in an environment full of history. The Retreat will be held at the Nauvoo Family Inn & Suites, 1875 Mulholland Street, Nauvoo, Illinois.
Nauvoo is located on a big bend in the Mississippi River and was the site of many of the significant events in the early years of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is the site of the beautifully reconstructed Nauvoo Temple, built as an almost exact replica of the original which has been long destroyed. The Latter-day Saints arrived in Nauvoo after suffering great persecution and privation. Almost miraculously, they built a beautiful city out of a mosquito infested swamp. They had hardly finished their work of building when they were again driven from their homes and forced into a migration across the continent to the Salt Lake Valley in what is now Utah.
Nauvoo has been called the Colonial Williamsburg of the Midwest. As a participant in the Retreat, you will be guided to some of the most significant historical sites in Nauvoo and surrounding Hancock County. In between visits to the historic and research sites, you will be taught a full schedule of classes about both the history and genealogical resources of the area as well as classes on the basics of genealogical research.
Thursday reception with FamilySearch and a chance to meet the professionals. Friday and Saturday you will learn how the pros research onsite at local repositories. It is like parachuting in tandem! The pros know the ropes and you are safe in their hands. This retreat will be exceptional and you don’t want to miss it!
