Come join us for 2 days of classes packed with research instruction, technology instruction, internet demos, and so much more!

Class Handouts are included with registration. PDF handouts are available for download directly from the website once you have completed your online registration. You are encouraged to print copies and bring them with you for the classes you plan to attend. You also have the option to purchase our 2014 Family History Expos Class Handouts in printed book format for only $25.00. The 2014 edition contains handouts for several Expos, you will enjoy the bonus materials. Purchase the 2014 Class Handouts as you register or directly from our online Store. Notice: We are not providing handouts on CD this year as many computers no longer have CD drives. Be sure to bring copies with you or pre-purchase the printed version and we will deliver it to you at the Expo.

Opening Keynote

Arlene H. Eakle, Ph.D. : President and founder of The Genealogical Institute, Inc., Dr. Eakle is a professional genealogist with more than 30 years' experience in research, consulting, lecturing, and writing. She has addressed more than 600 conferences, expos, seminars, and retreats.

Dr. Eakle is an expert in tracing families from New York, Southern U.S., British Isles, Switzerland, and parts of Germany. She claims a 96% success rate.

Dr. Eakle writes more than six blogs—Genealogy Evidence (since 2006), Kentucky, Scots-Irish, New York, Tennessee, Virginia and The Kingdoms: England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and the Isles of the Sea. The focus of The Kingdoms blog is on the time period before America was settled, up to 1750.

The Genealogy Library Center, Inc., a non-profit genealogy library established by Arlene and her husband Alma Eakle, will be open to the public: With more than 100 manuscript collections, including a 6 ½ ton collection of English research materials; the Holly T. Hansen United States Book Collection (especially Virginia and Kentucky marriage records); and the Conner-Bishop Book Collection of more than 70,000 volumes.

Something you may not know about Dr. Eakle: She was an ethnic surname consultant to the US Bureau of the Census and the National Archives for the 1990 Federal Census.
Holly T. Hansen : President and founder of Family History Expos, Inc., has been instrumental in helping thousands understand the principles, strategies, and sources they can use to trace their roots in today's ever-changing technological environment.

She is the mastermind behind more than 50 Family History Expos, held across the United States, and numerous Retreats at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah and repositories in diverse cities. She is dedicated to helping individuals and families, one-on-one, with their personal research needs. Currently, she is involved in creating podcasts, webinars, and video presentations to help people move forward in their family history endeavors.

Holly’s titles include author, lecturer, editor and publisher. She has produced more than 100 unique syllabus and class handout books for Family History Expos attendees. She is a former editor of Everton's Genealogical Helper magazine, and editor of the 10th and 11th editions of The Handybook for Genealogists, with more than one million copies sold. She has also authored The Directory of North American Railroads, Trekking for Ancestors, and co-authored a series of 16 family history interview books entitled Celebrating and Capturing the Memories.

Holly and her husband, Chris P. Hansen, have been married for 36 years and are the parents of five remarkable children. Holly received an Honors BA in History from Weber State University and continues to dedicate time to education on a daily basis.

Notable Presenters

James L. Tanner : Is a retired attorney and business owner with over 33 years of experience in genealogical research. James was an intelligence officer during the Vietnam War, has a BA Degree in Spanish, a Masters Degree in Linguistics from the University of Utah, and a JD Degree in Law from Arizona State University.

He has nearly 40 years experience as a trial attorney in Arizona with experience in both real estate and probate law among other areas of the law. His expertise is in high demand, he taught classes at the Mesa FamilySearch Library for 10 years. He is currently teaching from nine to eleven hours a week at the BYU FamilySearch Library and training all Missionaries on the floor. He is the author of The Guide to FamilySearch Online.

James is an avid Blogger and his genealogy blog, Genealogy's Star is one of the top genealogy blogs in the US. He has been a presenter at a number of Expos and Conferences. He is the former owner of a retail computer business and Apple Macintosh software company.
Ruby Coleman : Nebraska State Genealogical Society Genealogist of the Year 2011. Articles she has written have appeared in publications such as Ancestry, Internet Genealogy, Heritage Quest and Family Chronicle. She blogs at Nebraska Roots and Ramblings, You Go Genealogy Girls and Genealogy Lines. In January 2014 her book, Iowa Genealogical Research, was published and her book, Genealogical Research in Nebraska, revised edition with be published in the summer of 2014. She has been conducting her own research for almost 50 years and has helped people professionally for nearly 30 years. Ruby Coleman has embraced new technology for researchers at every turn.
